Born and bred in Sweden, Marianne grew up on stories about the Vikings and their world. She arrived in England to find that most peoples’ knowledge about Vikings could be summed up as ‘rape and pillage’. Marianne tries in her books to give a more nuanced view. She loves the Lake District where the Shieldmaiden trilogy is set. Marianne’s poetry and short stories have found their way into various magazines and anthologies, she gives talks on, for example, ‘Britons, Saxons, Vikings – Who Are the English?’ and ‘Shieldmaidens in Myth and Reality’ but mainly she writes historical adventures with women at the centre of action.
